How to draw the India map · भारत का नक्शा कैसे बनाएं
The grid method: draw squares, mark 6 dots, then copy the border one square at a time. The orange line is what you draw in that step.
How to draw the India map (grid method) — kheloaurseekho.in
- 1. Draw the grid
Draw 8 columns and 9 rows of equal squares. Squares of 2 cm fit an A4 page (16 cm × 18 cm). Write A–H on top and 1–9 down the left side. - 2. Mark 6 dots
Put a dot in each of these squares (look at where it sits inside the square): 1 Northern tip (Ladakh) – C1; 2 Sikkim – F3; 3 Arunachal Pradesh — eastern tip – H3; 4 Sundarbans (West Bengal coast) – F5; 5 Kanyakumari – C9; 6 Kutch (Gujarat) – A4. - 3. Join dot 1 to dot 2
Northern tip (Ladakh) → Sikkim: the Himalayas — the border with China and Nepal. The line passes through squares C1, D1, D2, D3, D4, E4, F4, F3. Copy the bends one square at a time. - 4. Join dot 2 to dot 3
Sikkim → Arunachal Pradesh — eastern tip: a narrow strip, then up and right to the far east. The line passes through squares F3, F4, G4, G3, H3. Copy the bends one square at a time. - 5. Join dot 3 to dot 4
Arunachal Pradesh — eastern tip → Sundarbans (West Bengal coast): down and round Bangladesh; the north-east hangs on a thin neck. The line passes through squares H3, H4, G4, G5, F4, F5. Copy the bends one square at a time. - 6. Join dot 4 to dot 5
Sundarbans (West Bengal coast) → Kanyakumari: the long east coast down to the tip. The line passes through squares F5, F6, E6, D6, D7, D8, D9, C9. Copy the bends one square at a time. - 7. Join dot 5 to dot 6
Kanyakumari → Kutch (Gujarat): up the west coast. The line passes through squares C9, C8, B8, B7, B6, B5, A5, A4. Copy the bends one square at a time. - 8. Join dot 6 to dot 1
Kutch (Gujarat) → Northern tip (Ladakh): the border with Pakistan, back to the top. The line passes through squares A4, B4, B3, C3, C2, B2, C1, B1. Copy the bends one square at a time. - 9. Add the islands
Andaman and Nicobar Islands: a chain of small islands in the Bay of Bengal (squares G7, G8, H9). Lakshadweep: tiny dots in the Arabian Sea (squares B8, B9). - 10. Name the seas and colour
Rub out the dots (and the grid, if you like). Write Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean, then colour the land.

Tips
- Draw lightly with a pencil first. Look at where the line enters and leaves each square.
- Don't worry about every small bend — get the big shape right: the crown in the north, the north-east, the long triangle in the south.
- Kanyakumari is the southern tip of the mainland. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are to the south-east, Lakshadweep to the south-west.
- Next, practise on a blank India outline map, then mark states on the political map and rivers on the rivers map.
The outline here is simplified for drawing practice. It follows India's official boundary from DataMeet (CC BY 4.0), including the whole of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. For the exact boundary use the outline map. More drawing: all step-by-step drawings · Indian flag.
