Roll a die, toss a coin, draw a card — what is the chance?
Probability games
Probability
P(event) = number of favourable outcomes ÷ total number of outcomes. It is always between 0 (impossible) and 1 (certain).
- A die has 6 outcomes (1–6). P(even) = 3/6 = 1/2.
- A coin has 2 outcomes. Two coins: HH, HT, TH, TT (4 outcomes).
- A pack of 52 cards: 4 suits × 13; 26 red, 26 black; 12 face cards; 4 aces, 4 kings.
- P(not E) = 1 − P(E).
For Class 9 and 10 (NCERT Ganita Manjari 9, “The Mathematics of Maybe”, and Class 10 Probability). All answers are computed by a program and given in simplest form.
A one-page chart to stick on the wall, and a worksheet to practise.
