Antilog table (four-figure antilogarithms)

Antilog = the number whose log is given (10 raised to that power). Type a log value to see its antilog and how to read it.

Log table

How to read the antilog table

  1. Split the log into characteristic and mantissa: 1.3493 → characteristic 1, mantissa .3493.
  2. Row .34, column 9 → 2234; mean difference column 3 → +2 → 2236.
  3. Characteristic 1 → two digits before the decimal point → 22.36 (a calculator gives 22.35 — four-figure tables can be 1 off in the last digit).
  4. For a negative log like −1.5, first write it as 2̄.5 (−2 + 0.5), then use mantissa .5000.

Every value is computed with a computer to 4 figures. Printed books may differ by 1 in a few mean-difference cells.
