Tally marks · मिलान चिह्न
Count the bundles of 5, then read tally charts like a data detective.
Tally marks games
What are tally marks?
Tally marks help us count things quickly while we collect data. Draw one line for each thing. The fifth line goes across the first four — that makes a bundle of 5, so counting is easy: 5, 10, 15… then add the extra lines.
5 + 2 = 7
Example: we asked children which fruit they like. A tally chart makes the answer easy to read:
| Fruit | Tally | |
|---|---|---|
| 🍎 | Apple | |
| 🍌 | Banana | |
| 🥭 | Mango |
Goes with NCERT Maths Mela (Class 3) — data handling. Also see the Class 3 maths worksheets.
A one-page chart to stick on the wall, and a worksheet to practise.
