Air (78% N₂) → nitrogen fixation by Rhizobium bacteria in root nodules and by lightning → nitrates in soil → plants make proteins → animals eat plants → decomposers make ammonia from dead matter → denitrifying bacteria send N₂ back to the air.

Carbon cycle · कार्बन चक्र

CO₂ in air → photosynthesis in plants → food chains → respiration, decay and burning fuels return CO₂ to the air.
