The theorem
In a right-angled triangle, hypotenuse² = base² + perpendicular² (c² = a² + b²). The hypotenuse (कर्ण) is the longest side, opposite the right angle.
Indian name: the Baudhāyana–Pythagoras theorem — the Baudhāyana Śulba-sūtra described it for building fire altars, long before Pythagoras.
Pythagorean triples: 3-4-5, 5-12-13, 8-15-17, 7-24-25, 20-21-29 — and their multiples (6-8-10, 9-12-15…).
Converse: if c² = a² + b² for three sides, the triangle is right-angled.
