Crust → mantle → outer core (liquid) → inner core (solid). The crust and top of the mantle are broken into large tectonic plates (विवर्तनिक प्लेटें).
- Alfred Wegener (1912): continents drift; once joined as Pangaea.
- Plates collide → fold mountains (Himalayas: Indian + Eurasian plates); pull apart → rift valleys, new ocean floor.
- Sudden movement → earthquakes (seismograph, Richter scale); magma rising → volcanoes. Ring of Fire around the Pacific.
For Class 7 to 11 (NCERT Class 7 “Inside Our Earth” in the older book; Class 11 “Fundamentals of Physical Geography”).
