The water cycle · जल चक्र

The same water goes round and round — from the sea to the sky, back to the land and into the sea again. This journey is the water cycle.

The 4 steps

☀️1. Evaporation · वाष्पीकरण

The Sun heats water in seas, rivers and lakes. It turns into water vapour and rises into the air.

☁️2. Condensation · संघनन

High up the air is cool. The water vapour cools into tiny drops that make clouds.

🌧️3. Precipitation · वर्षण

When the drops in clouds get big and heavy, they fall as rain, snow or hail.

🌊4. Collection · संग्रहण

The water collects in rivers, lakes, seas and under the ground — and the cycle starts again.

🌿 Also: Transpiration (वाष्पोत्सर्जन) — Plants also give out water vapour through tiny holes in their leaves.

The Sun's heat drives the whole cycle. No new water is made — the water we drink today has been going round this cycle for millions of years.
