Troposphere क्षोभमंडल	0 – about 13 km (8 km at poles, 18 km at equator)	All weather, clouds and rain happen here; temperature falls as we go up
Stratosphere समतापमंडल	about 13 – 50 km	Has the ozone layer that blocks harmful UV rays; calm, so jets fly in its lower part
Mesosphere मध्यमंडल	about 50 – 80 km	Coldest layer; meteors burn up here
Thermosphere तापमंडल	about 80 – 600 km	Very hot thin air; ionosphere reflects radio waves; auroras; the space station orbits here
Exosphere बहिर्मंडल	above about 600 km	Outermost layer, air fades into space; many satellites

Air: nitrogen ≈ 78%, oxygen ≈ 21%, argon ≈ 0.9%, carbon dioxide ≈ 0.04%, plus water vapour and dust. Heights are approximate and change with place and season.
